Angoworld Lighting
Shop Angoworld!

Angus Hutcheson is the most innovative and talented lighting designer to emerge since Isamu Noguchi revolutionaized how we interact with light. Each ANGOWORLD fixture highlights the qualities of materials unique to lighting, including exotic natural materials like silk cocoon, mulberry bark and rattan wire.
Hutcheson's design philosophy seems at odds with the finished project. Motivated by whimsy, his creations possess a playful spirit seemingly at odds with the quality of construction and attention to detail. the Chrysalis Sky (shown here) features a delicate stainless steel arm that cantilevers over a weighted base that impossibly suports a round diffuser of silkworm cocoon arranged on a hand-soldered wire matrix. When activated, the light casts an ethereal glow and Dante-esque shadows add a unique evern otherworldly quality to the light.
Abahna - The Ceremony of Bathing
Shop Abahna!

Bathing ceremonies have held great significance throughout the ages.
In Egypt, Greece and Rome, the purifying properties of water were revered, while aromatic oils and natural preparations were widely used for health, beauty and emotional wellbeing. Similar ceremonies, both religious and secular, have historically been practiced throughout Asia and Africa too.
Many of these practices survive in modern form. In Scandinavia and Russia, sauna and banya remain as much a way of life as the hamman and onsen do in Morocco and Japan, while a huge variety of treatments can now be found around the world thanks to the phenomenal growth of the spa.
With its roots in these traditions, Abahna has been created to reawaken people to the possibilities of bathing as a therapeutic and rewarding experience.

Edward Wohl
Shop Edward Wohl Breadboards!

Award-winning Wisconsin artist Edward Wohl has been designing and building custom wood furniture, bird's-eye maple cutting boards and serving trays for over thirty five years. His architectural background and sculptural approach are evident in the lustrous look, liquid feel and definitive utility of his creations. Bird's-eye maple is an anolmaly of hard maple. Only one in perhaps 500 hard maple trees will exhibit this pattern, and experts are uncertain why it occurs. The beauty and durability of hard maple make it a perfect wood for cutting boards.
Form and Pheromone

Entymology as art? We'll let Christopher explain: "The experience of actually handling the specimens and using them as a medium of design opened a Pandora's box for me. Years of study in Entomology followed, then excursions to ridiculously remote locales to collect and observe selected species in their own habitats. One goofy idea followed another until I opened my own gallery in Hermosa Beach, CA, in 2000.
As my fascination with insects was inspired by a desperation to avoid them, the
presentation is antiseptic. Minimalist to escape the claustrophobia that almost
universally accompanies one's interactions with arthropods. Perfectly symmetrical so that the insects themselves, and the designs they comprise evoke feelings of structure, mechanics and Form rather than slithering and clicking. An industrial designer’s fantasy rather than an entomological quagmire.
Pheromones are chemical stimulants that insects release to attract one another -- and they’ve been known to seduce the occasional human, too. "

Ok, the image is too small to read the message, so we'll translate it for you.
"I think I know how you feel. Numb...from the avalanche of cutesy picture frames, the reek of bayberry, floormats in your choice of dog breed. I feel your interior ennui, but what's more...I've done something about it. My crackerjack design team and I have travelled the four corners of the globe in search of the truth, justice and the ultimate in style. Stuff that works, puts a smile on your face and doesn't cost a fortune. I'm Fred. Why not let me into your home? I promise to help out around the house..."
We couldn't agree more, how about a shot glass made of ice, or salt and pepper shakers that resemble grade school alphabet blocks? Or create a miracle for breakfast with the Holy Toast Virgin Mary. Fred guarantees to put a smile on your face, as well as, salt and pepper in your salad.

Heath Ceramics is one of the few remaining mid-century American potteries still in existence today. We have been making tableware and tile for over a half-century right here in our Sausalito, California factory. Laguiole en Aubrac

This humble farmer’s knife was first created in 1829, in Laguiole, a small mountain village of the Aveyron, in southwestern France. The bee decorating the spring plate would eventually become the prestigious symbol of France’s most celebrated knife. Cowmen carrying

The first Laguiole knives were inspired by the Arabo-Hispanic knife, the Navaja. Local men who migrated to Spain in winter as pit-sawyers brought this knife back as souvenirs. Local cutlers and tinkers blended the Navaja with a local knife of the time, the Capouchadou, thus creating what came to be known as the Laguiole.
